Wyming Brook
The task this Sunday was with the Wildlife Trust in Wyming Brook. With 4 enthusiastic volunteers, we took a bus down to Redmires Road from where we followed a stream down to the Redmires Nature Reserve.
Our task for the day was to uproot the little Himalayan Balsam plant. This plant species is invasive and covers large patches of land, leaving no place for others to grow. Rachael, the community ranger, gave us a very useful trick in identifying the plant- it had a very distinctive reddish stem.
The sun was shining down throughout the day and we had a great time listening to the bird songs. All in all it was a productive day and between ourselves, we did manage to clear out a fair bit.
The enthusiastic volunteer team at Wyming Brook!
