This weekend Sheffield University partnered with their nature related societies to deliver a fun filled ‘Nature Network’ weekend. One of these events was the annual ‘Peaks and City Takeover’ done by the Conservation Volunteering society.
A total of 21 volunteers, including students from Nottingham University, phd students and former SUCV committee members headed off from the Uni and to Oaks Wood. Oaks Wood is a beautiful 11 acre site owned by our contact; Kulatidya. We all split into 2 groups, and spent the day pulling, hacking and cleaving at the brambles.
We then enjoyed our lunch around a bonfire with great company, plenty of biscuits and a good old thermos tea. Before starting our second round of wood clearing, we enjoyed a tour of the gorgeous estate where we found a tree, climbed the tree and took a picture. We also went on the hunt for some badgers, and although we didn’t find any of the little creatures we found lots of badger setts.
All in all this was a great task! Thanks to everyone who turned up, hopefully you had as much fun as I did!!
