Peak District Rangers
The morning of 6th of February saw us walking down to the bus stop on Ecclesall Road to take the bus to Fox House. We were going to meet the Peak District Rangers to help them with their woodland management project. About 60-70 years ago, the Longshaw Estate was covered in timber, which was planted because it is economically beneficial. However, it greatly impacted the local woodlands consisting of oak and pine. The woodland management project aims at re-establishing the natural flora.
By this time of the year, the project is well under way. They have already put in 1500 man hours but there is a lot more to do. Our job on the day was to clear away the brash and pile it up for burning. The weather was not favourable and it rained the whole time. But we had a great time with the Rangers despite the weather.
